May the Fourth Virtual Star Wars Programs

For our annual May the Fourth celebration, we had three pandemic-friendly Star Wars programs. First was a Virtual Storytime with Princess Leia. Princess Leia (of Parties with Character) read “Join the Rebels” by Catherine Saunders and did interactive Padawan training games with the kids. It was shown as a Facebook premiere video. We also had Parties with Character do a virtual Elf on the Shelf program for us back in December. She always does an excellent job, I can't recommend her enough!

One of our children's librarians found this cute Baby Yoda craft that she put together as a Take Home craft.

For the adults, we had a virtual presentation on The Music of Star Wars by Aaron Krerowicz. Often called a “space opera”, one aspect of the Star Wars films that helped make them such a pop culture phenomenon was composer John Williams' iconic music. This 60-minute multimedia presentation showcases music from all nine episodes, illustrating how the music helps tell the story. We hosted Aaron's presentation on The Beatles last month, and were so impressed that we asked him back for the Star Wars program as well.

We also received a donation of around 150 copes of "Star Wars: Spark of the Resistance" by Justina Ireland, and were able to offer those as a free giveaway for May the Fourth.
